The kitchen is the heart of your home. It’s the core of family living; enjoying our morning coffee, grabbing a bowl of cereal before we leave for work, carefully chopping salad for weekend visitors and preparing a home cooked meal for our families to enjoy in the evening.
Often it is the kitchen design that takes the most time to choose at Pre-start because the space is such an integral part of each homes’ design. Timeless and traditional, or modern and eclectic, your kitchen can express your personality and set the tone for surrounding rooms.
Kitchens are also the space that sees the most change in trends. Years ago, the kitchen was hidden in the home with the lounge room the centrepiece of home design. Now the kitchen has a different role in family living, being embraced and showcasing the very best in finishes, flow, and interior design. Here we share the top trends in kitchens we expect to see in 2018.
Statement shelving is a must in 2018. We all need storage, especially with a big family and statement shelving is a fantastic way to achieve essential space and showcase great design. Natural wood shelves on a colour block wall or black shelves on a simple white wall can provide your kitchen with an eye-catching feature.
Handles, handles, handles
We love a bold handle. Nothing sets off a kitchen like a simple kitchen unit and beautiful handles. Wood on white, chrome on black or even a gold feature handle are winning combinations for 2018. Update your old cabinets with a statement handle to completely refresh your kitchen with minimal expense and keep with the trends.
A favourite of ours is an industrial kitchen design. Simple, timeless and so easy to accessorise. If you’re developing with a view to rent or sell your property and a white on white look isn’t your thing; an industrial design is the way to go. Cool grey tones can be easily finished with brass tapware or bright accessories. For a bolder look, choose a dark grey matt unit.
Bring the outside in
Nothing quite says kitchen-chic like an indoor herb garden, or better yet a trend we will be seeing more of; living garden walls. Inspired by inner-city apartments where outside space was a luxury, even the largest of homes are now embracing the convenience and style of living garden walls.
If the scent of fresh herbs throughout you day isn’t enough, another bonus is the bright pop of colour herbs and plants can bring to an otherwise simple space. Place in natural wood containers and install at shoulder height and your look is complete!
Must have marble
Marble has been in and out of kitchen trends for years, but this year we think we will be seeing marble kitchens more than previous years. Marble can be injected into your kitchen style in many ways, it doesn’t just have to be through pricey marble bench tops, splash back or tiles (although if within your budget – these are statement pieces that will have prospective purchasers swooning), marble can be seen through careful finishings and accent pieces that truly give your kitchen a sense of luxury.
We love helping our clients express their personality through kitchen design. It’s one of our favourite parts of the pre-start process. To get started on your home or development, partner with Perth’s Property Development Specialists to maximise the return on your investment.
